Accused Bondi Gunmen Acted Solo and Did Not Instruction in the Philippines, Authorities Confirm.

The two suspected attackers who carried out the fatal attack at a Hanukkah celebration on Bondi Beach, which claimed 15 lives, appear to have operated independently, as stated by national authorities.

Investigators further stated that the 50-year-old Sajid Akram, and his 24-year-old son Naveed Akram flew to the Philippines on 1 November. Their travel plans involved landing in the main city Manila before traveling onward on the day of arrival to Davao City. The pair flew back to Sydney on 29 November.

Lack of Proof of Training During Visit

Investigators assert the duo did not partake in any form of attack-related instruction or "planning" during their visit in the Philippines. Early findings from Philippine authorities indicate they "hardly ventured out of" their accommodation.

The shooting—labeled as Australia's deadliest mass shooting since 1996—has been formally classified as a terrorist incident.

"We are actively analyzing the material," she said, noting that early reviews show that "the two men are believed to have acted alone."

Australian Federal Police Chief Krissy Barrett informed reporters on Tuesday that surveillance material tracking the alleged gunmen's activities in the Philippines had been handed over to Australian authorities.

"There is no evidence to indicate these accused individuals were part of a broader organization, or were acting on orders from external parties to execute an attack," the police chief stated.

But, the men were also not in the Philippines on a leisure trip, she added. She stressed that, given that the investigation is ongoing, additional details might come to light.

Ideology and Court Proceedings

Previously, the nation's leader Anthony Albanese commented it looks as though both accused attackers were "influenced by Islamic State" extremist views.

During the incident, Sajid Akram was shot dead by responding officers. He and his son Naveed—equipped with long-barrelled guns—are accused of having targeted participants at the Hanukkah event.

Naveed Akram, who was wounded after the attack, has been charged with 59 crimes. These comprise 15 counts of murder and one count of perpetrating a terrorist act. He is due to face court in April.

Immigration Particulars

In the wake following the shooting, immigration authorities in the Philippines indicated that the older suspect had entered the country using an Indian passport, while his son used an domestic passport.

The duo had stated the southern city of Davao as their final destination. Their pre-arranged return flight to Australia was for Sydney.
