One of the original creators behind the well-known ice cream brand Ben and Jerry's has stated that corporate owner the multinational conglomerate prevented the introduction for a new pro-Palestinian frozen dessert product.

The entrepreneur, who established the business alongside his partner, revealed that he will independently develop the controversial product as part of an individual collection highlighting issues the company has been prevented from speaking out about.

Ongoing Dispute Between Creators and Parent Company

The recent development escalates the continuing tension among the world-famous dessert company with Unilever, the British packaged goods corporation which acquired Ben & Jerry's since 2000.

The co-founders maintain how Unilever and its ice cream arm Magnum improperly prevented their company from "fulfilling its ethical commitments".

Watermelon Flavor becoming a Symbol of Solidarity

The entrepreneur stated via an Instagram video that he is creating a new watermelon-based sorbet, asking for consumer ideas for the product's name and potential ingredients.

“I'm doing what they were prevented from doing,” Mr. Cohen commented from his kitchen. “I'm creating a watermelon-based ice cream that advocates for permanent peace for Palestinians while demanding repairing the damage that occurred in the region.”

This particular fruit has become an emblem of support for Palestinians due to its coloration, which closely resemble the colors in Palestine's national banner – red, green, black and white.

Historical Activism and Recent Developments

Several years ago, the ice cream company refused to sell its products in territories under Israeli control, leading to Unilever selling their Israel business over to a local licensee, thereby permitting continued sales within disputed territories.

This upcoming product line will be developed under Ben's Best, the socially conscious ice cream brand which was first created several years back for endorsing former US presidential candidate Bernie Sanders via the product "Bernie's Back".

Management Shifts and Upcoming Plans

The founder revealed that he will develop other frozen dessert varieties focusing on issues which Ben & Jerry's was prevented from speaking about openly due to Unilever.

This development comes after partner Mr. Greenfield stepped down his position at the company in September, following many years with the organization, mentioning concerns that its independence was compromised following corporate moves to restrict its social activism.

At that time, Mr. Cohen stated how “My partner has a really big heart and the ongoing dispute with our parent company was deeply distressing him."

"My heart compels me to keep working within the organization to fight for its independence so that the company can actualise its ethical purpose, the values which established its foundation and has maintained for over 40 years," he told media outlets.
