The United Kingdom is set to progress with employing the total value of seized Russian funds to bolster Ukraine's military campaign, Leader Sir Keir Starmer has stated.

In a shared declaration, the heads of state of the United Kingdom, France, and Germany emphasized that this unified step would increase strain on Russia's leader Vladimir Putin and compel the Russian Federation to engage in negotiations.

They further noted that the move would be implemented in close cooperation with the US.

United Kingdom restrictions have frozen more than £25bn of Russian resources since Moscow initiated its comprehensive attack against the Ukrainian nation in 2022. Yet, until now, funds provided to the Ukrainian government using Russian funds had exclusively been sourced from earnings and returns earned on them.

Sir Keir told Ukraine's leader Volodymyr Zelensky that the United Kingdom, France, and the Federal Republic of Germany were in agreement in their goal to drive progress toward utilizing the total worth of the seized Russian sovereign assets to halt hostilities.

He noted that more measures in the coming days and weeks would heighten the tension on the Russian government.

This statement follows European Union leaders gathered in Copenhagen last week to debate using immobilized Russian assets for a €140bn loan to Ukraine.

In the previous month, US President Donald Trump urged Group of Seven partners to take or utilize seized Russia's assets, according to media sources.

The value of frozen Russian funds in the European Union is estimated to be approximately €211bn.

Moscow launched large-scale bombardments across Ukraine on Friday, causing power cuts in large parts of the capital city, Kyiv, and several other zones.

Several persons were lost their lives and a minimum of 20 people were injured in the strike, the Ukrainian government said.

In a post on X subsequent to the strike, Zelensky wrote that the premeditated assault targeted non-military and power facilities.
