Arsenal's manager feels assured that his side can keep managing with injury setbacks following confirming that star striker Kai Havertz is not ready for a few more weeks.

Extended Absence for Havertz

The Germany international has been absent since the summer due to knee surgery. Hoped to come back earlier in December, Arteta revealed the player encountered a problem when advancing his rehabilitation and could not progress “the required stage.”

“We learned, and we were able to put together a group that is far more dependable and has more options,” commented Arteta.

Selection Dilemma for Brentford Clash

This news creates a dilemma for the midweek fixture at the Emirates against Brentford. A decision is required between sticking with Mikel Merino, who got a goal as a makeshift striker on Sunday, or recalling Viktor Gyökeres, who came back after a fitness issue off the bench. Veteran striker Gabriel Jesus is in contention after 11 months out.

Defensive Concerns Remain

More doubts surround centre-back William Saliba and attacker Leandro Trossard, who both missed the weekend encounter. Consequently, recent arrivals Cristhian Mosquera and Piero Hincapié are likely to keep their places in central defence for the Premier League front-runners.

Arteta believes the substantial investment on squad depth in the last transfer window has placed the club in a far better place to deal with such absences.

Greater Options Key to Premier League Pursuit

When asked if a larger pool of players was helping their championship push, his response was positive. “Indeed, since the current term has been worse in the attacking line, and now the situation with the backline,” he added.

“History has shown us that we must deploy players in different positions, and they need to be prepared to perform various functions if we are to fight at the top. And the instance of Mikel Merino.”

Arteta's Support for Suffering Havertz

Addressing the setback highlighted by national team coach Julian Nagelsmann, the manager gave further detail. “His recovery was progressing. He could not go to the required step and now it appears like we have solved that issue.”

Arteta expressed his keenness to welcome him back. “The team is keen to have him. Truly, it’s a player that, in my view, I admire greatly for what he brings to the team, but his mentality, his personality. I see him suffer on the sidelines.”

“His fitness history is outstanding, he's usually fit, and I can’t wait to get him back with the squad playing because I think it’s going to be a huge lift.”
