The British tennis star earned the most notable success of his career by rallying from a early deficit to beat world No 1 Carlos Alcaraz 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 in the second round of the prestigious indoor tournament.

While he had before beaten Alcaraz on two prior meetings, this triumph marks Norrie's maiden success over a reigning world top-ranked player.

Alcaraz looked to be moving confidently to success early on as he cruised in the opening set. However, Norrie slowly worked himself into contention by delivering with sharper placement and engaging the Spanish opponent into prolonged, grueling exchanges. His persistent consistency and reliability steadily left its mark.

During large parts of the contest, the world number one delivered strong serves but he struggled badly to get his timing right on his baseline shots. The 22-year-old appeared notably uncomfortable striking his signature shot, which has been the best shot in the sport for most of this year, committing 29 mistakes off the forehand side and a total of 54 mistakes. On the other side, the British player offered Alcaraz minimal unforced errors, maintaining his consistency, physicality and power the entire contest while performing well on serve and picking his spots to force himself into the court and play aggressively.
